The list of adult books is short because I don’t read a lot of adult fiction. Since I’m a teen and children’s librarian I spend most of my time reading teen and picture books. I make exceptions for a few great adult authors. Fair warning these books are beyond not teen books. Some of them contain violence, sex, bad language, and sometimes creatures more dark and terrifying and funny then you will find in most teen books. You read at your own risk.
Joe Pitt Series by Charlie Huston
Think Scarface meets Interview with the Vampire. Joe is a guy who got infected with the vampyre vryus back in the 70’s. He’s an unaffiliated vamp living in Manhattan, and he is the kind of scary guy you call when you need something done and don’t want to get your hands dirty. This book is written in the noir style of old black and white films. The characters are raw and dirty and the book moves fast. Huston’s writing style, and his dialog hit you like a hammer from start to finish. This is a guy’s book, but I love it. The whole series is amazing. I dare you not to get sucked in.

Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris
Sookie is a waitress in a little bar in a little town down south. I’m already bored…Except she can read people’s minds. She has always been able to do it. That used to mean listening to boring thoughts about chores, and infidelity, but things have become a lot more interesting since the vampires have come out of the coffin. Vampires have made themselves known, and since they have invented a synthetic blood substitute they don’t need to eat people for food anymore. They are fighting for equal rights for vampires. All of that is happing as the background to Sookie’s first adventure. When the vampire Bill walks into her bar she gets her first taste of silence. She can’t hear his thoughts and it’s intoxicating. With all that’s going on in town it’s no wonder she can’t pick up the thoughts of the serial killer living in her
small town. This is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire
series. This book is also the basis for the new HBO series True Blood.
